William E. Tilton, Jr.

William E. Tilton, Jr., 77, of Bridgeton, died in Underwood Memorial Hospital, Woodbury, on Monday afternoon, June 16, 2008. He had been in declining health for 22 years and had been a resident of Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township for the past 3 years.

The husband of Edna Dare Tilton, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late William E. Tilton, Sr. and Ruth Biddle Tilton. He had been a lifetime resident of the Bridgeton area. He and his wife Edna had celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this past January.

Bill was a carpenter by trade and had been employed through the Carpenter’s Union Local 121 in Vineland, for 15 years. He retired in 1986 after suffering a stroke. He had also assisted his father-in-law, Raymond Dare, in the operation of the Dare Farm in Roadstown for many years.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Marine Corps and was an avid finish carpenter.

Besides his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Patricia T. MacMaster, West Deptford; one son, David W. Tilton, Alloway; three grandchildren, Benjamin S. MacMaster, Mary Katelyn MacMaster and Alexandra L. Tilton; three sisters, Dolly Ford, Bridgeton, Eleanor Jones, Bridgeton and Dora Swanson, Delaware and his mother-in-law, Mary S. Dare, Roadstown.

Funeral services will be held in the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Saturday, June 21, at 12:00 O’clock noon. Burial will be in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Hopewell Township. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning between 11:00 and 12:00 O’clock.
