Bertha "Peaches" Corbin

Bertha “Peaches” Corbin, 82, of Millville, formerly of Port Norris, died unexpectedly Friday evening, March 28, 2008, at the South Jersey Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.

The wife of the late Jesse J. Corbin, she was born in Orangeburg, S. C. and was the daughter of the late Frank Jamison and Bertha Williams Jamison. She had lived in Millville for the past year and a half. Prior to that she had been a resident of Port Norris since the age of 22, where she met and later married and raised a family with her lifetime companion Jesse.

Prior to her retirement she had been employed with the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland and before that in the seafood packing industry in Port Norris.

“Peaches” was a graduate of Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, S. C. She had been a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Norris, where she served for many years as a deaconess, was a member of the usher board and also was a member of the church choir.

Survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Corbin, Bowie, Md. and Annette Kent and her husband Pastor Ronald Kent, Millville; eight sons, Robert Jamison (Janet), Laurel Lake, James Corbin, Bridgeton, Harold Corbin, Bridgeton, Dennis Corbin (Elizabeth), Vineland, Rev. Donald Corbin (Ida), Millville, Leonard Corbin, Millville, Keith Corbin (Rebecca), Whitesboro and Russell Corbin, Raleigh, N. C.; two brothers, Frank “Bub” Jamison (Dorothy), Millville and Charlie Jamison (Lannie), Detroit, Mich.; twenty seven grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family with special recognition to Denise Mills, Deborah Smith and Yvonne Lecator. She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Barnett.

Funeral services will be held in the Shiloh Baptist Church, Memorial Avenue, Port Norris, on Friday morning, April 4th, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday morning between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Cedarville.
