James Franklin, Sr., age 88, of
Vineland died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell
Township. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Born in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of the late Paul and Letha Mae
Franklin he was the husband of the late Alice Taylor Franklin. He had
been a Vineland resident for two years and prior to that had lived in
Fairfield Township and West Virginia.
Before his retirement Mr. Franklin had been employed at the former Salem
Pipe and Iron Works in Bridgeton. He worked for several years as a coal
miner when he resided in West Virginia.
Jim greatly enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Surviving are two sons, James Franklin, Jr. and his wife Jackie of
Fairfield Township and Timothy J. Mason and his wife Cathy of
Sicklerville; a daughter, Gladys Franklin of Vineland; a sister, Willie
Mae Campbell of California; a sister in law, Maedella Franklin of
Washington, D.C., 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was
predeceased by two sons, Theodore Franklin and Art Boatwright, 8
brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State
Highway # 77, Upper Deerfield Township on Saturday, June 7th at 12 noon.
Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the
services at the funeral home.
