Suzan “Granny” Young, age 87, of
Upper Deerfield Township died Monday, May 26, 2008 at South Jersey
Regional Medical Center where she had been a patient for one week
following a lengthily illness.
Born in Shamokin, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and
Amanda Middleton Sockwell. She had been an Upper Deerfield Township
resident for the past 44 years and had lived in the Bridgeton area since
she was a child of two and a half years old.
Suzan had been employed as a bus driver with the Bridgeton Board of
Education for 21 years before her retirement in 1988. She had also
previously been employed with the former New Jersey Bell Telephone
Company.
A member of First Wesleyan Church in Upper Deerfield Township, she had
served as a Sunday School Teacher, was active in Ladies Missions and the
Young Missionaries Workers Band and was a devoted prayer warrior.
Surviving are a daughter, Kelsey Ann Mancebo of Bridgeton; two
grandchildren, Amanda S. Mancebo and Francis C. Mancebo both of
Bridgeton; a nephew, Merald Sockwell, Jr. of Perrysburg, OH and three
great-grandchildren, Luke, Elwood and Lila. She was predeceased by two
brothers, Merald A. Sockwell and Clarence L. “Jack” Evans.
Funeral services will be held at First Wesleyan Church, 200 West Laurel
Heights Drive, Upper Deerfield Township on Saturday, May 31st at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Laurel Lawn Cemetery in Upper Deerfield
Township.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the services at
the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper
Deerfield Township.
