Gardner Harrison Stubee, 31 years
old, died on June 21, 2009 of injuries sustained in a single automobile
accident.
Born in Greensboro, MD on his
grandmother’s dairy farm, he moved to Vineland in 1979 where he lived
until moving to Millville in 2008.
Gardner was a Vineland High School
Class of ’95 graduate, varsity wrestler and chess club member.
He graduated Cumberland County
College Class of ’06 with an Associates Degree in Science in
Engineering, Phi Theta Kappa, Dean’s List and Drama Club.
He graduated Gloucester County
College Class of ’07 with an Associates Degree in Applied Science in
Civil Engineering Technology, Land Surveying Option. He was on the
Presidents List, Member of 2006 Division III non-scholarship National
Championship wrestling team, and won 3rd place at the Atlantic Regional
at 133 lbs.
Gar also attended N.J. Institute of
Technology on a 2 year full tuition scholarship, awarded by the New
Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors based on his academic and
athletic junior college performance and his body of work resume. He
graduated Cum Laude Class of ’09 with a Bachelor of Science in
Engineering Technology, Surveying Engineering Technology Option, Newark
College of Engineering.
He was employed full-time in his
family Engineering and Surveying practice for 14 years as Survey Party
Chief, while attending full-time college at night. Major projects of
which he was most proud were: SEPTA Blue Line Construction of a four
level station with elevated inbound & outbound track and all related
site facilities at Frankford & Pratt Streets, Philadelphia; DRPA
moveable barrier survey for the Commodore Barry, Walt Whitman, Ben
Franklin & Betsy Ross Bridges; SEPTA escalator replacement survey for
Philadelphia City Hall, 30th Street Station, Erie Avenue Station &
Spring Garden Street Access; SEPTA 48 hour rail shut down over 2008
Labor Day weekend for rapid precast concrete bridge replacement on Del
Val College campus in Doylestown, PA.
Gar played Little League Baseball for
6 years in the East Vineland Little League and wrestled for the Vineland
mini wrestling program from 1985 until entering Vineland High School in
1992. He enjoyed theatre and drama and was an eight year graduate of the
Academy of Dance and Fitness on Main Road, Vineland. Gar enjoyed music &
played guitar well and was becoming a self-taught pianist. He had
recently begun having an interest in the Bayshore Discovery Project
which sponsors the Official N.J. tall ship, the restored oyster
schooner, A.J. Meerwald and was attempting to find time to learn to sail
since his degree work was completed.
Gardner is survived by his mother
Mary (nee Ellwanger of Greensboro, MD) (Stubee) Palys of Vineland, his
father Stewart L. Stubee of Millville, his sister Selena Marie Stubee of
Ventnor, his brother Nikolai Palys of Vineland, his grandparents Albert
H. & Margie L. Stubee of Fairton and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins
and friends.
He was predeceased by his
grandparents, Charles & Margaret Ellwanger.
Relatives and friends are invited to
attend Funeral Services at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway
77, Upper Deerfield, NJ on Monday, June 29th at 11 am.
Burial will take place at Our Lady Of Pompeii Cemetery in Vineland.
Visitation will be held at the
funeral home on Sunday, June 28th from 6 to 9 pm, and again on Monday,
June 29th from 10 to 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made in Gar’s memory to the Bayshore Discovery
Project, 2800 High Street, Port Norris, NJ, 08349.
