Arthur Samuel Constantine Jackson

Arthur Samuel Constantine Jackson, (80) affectionately known as “Papa” and “Grandad” went home peacefully to be with the Lord on February 14, 2010. He was born to the late Edward Samuel and Bernice Jackson (Brown) on November 29, 1929 in Crooked River, Clarendon, Jamaica. He was educated by the Jamaican School system and worked as a tailor by trade.  While in Jamaica, he attended Smithville Church of God and married Hannah Viola (Gray) on June 29, 1960. He migrated to the United States on July 3, 1974. 

Arthur worked various trades and retired from Kimble Glass after 14 years of service in 1989. He was a dedicated and faithful Elder at the Crusaders for Christ Ministries of Bridgeton. Papa was an avid gardener and cook but enjoyed spending most of his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially enjoyed playing dominos and ludy with family and friends.  Although Papa was a citizen of the United States, he also shared dual citizenship in Jamaica where he has a beautiful tropical getaway during the winter months. One of his favorite pastimes was drinking coffee in the office with Elder Brown and Elder Ralph where he would share stories of his times and adventures in Jamaica.

In addition to his wife, Papa leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life to his seven children. LaConnie Savage (Wesley) Sheila Gayle (Errol), Bentley Jackson (Charlotte), Margaret Donaldson (Clifford), Carmen Gbayisomore (Akinboju), Patricia Shaw and Isaac Jackson; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friends and a dear friend Ralph Esquelin who he embraced as a beloved brother, Miguel and Lorna Phillips.

He is also survived by three siblings Rachael Anderson (Alphonso), Thomas Jackson (Myrtle), and Roseanne Bartley. He has one brother-in-law Hubert McLeod and one sister-in-law Adlin Mills (Eleston).

He was predeceased by one brother Charles Brown and three brother-in-laws Lennon Edwards, Jasper Pink, and Frederick Bartley and one sister-in-law Carmen Clarke.

Funeral services will be held in the Crusaders For Christ Church, 33 Reeves Road, Bridgeton, on Monday morning, Feb. 22, at 11:00 O’clock. Burial will be in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. A viewing will be held in the church on Monday morning between 9:00 and 11:00 O’clock. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, Upper Deerfield Township.
