Douglas Rooks Murphy of Wallace, North Carolina left his earthly home on the evening of Saturday, May 11, 2019 while a resident of North Chase Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wilmington. Born March 17, 1935, he was the son of the late James Repton and Lila Selma Rooks Murphy. Also predeceasing him are his wife--Patricia Ann Murphy and brothers--Jimmy Rooks Murphy and Charles "Nelson" Murphy.
Mr. Murphy is survived by a son--Mitchell "Mitch" Douglas Murphy of Pink Hill and a sister--Annie Catherine Morrison and husband Joe of Slidell, LA. As a proud veteran, military obligations were met with four years in the United States Air Force during the early 1950's. He was a no "nonsense person" when it came to making a decision and he wanted to know only the "bottom line" in making up his mind on an issue. After military, driving a truck was the main occupation in his life and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of all, he enjoyed and loved his family.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. in the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace, North Carolina. Family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made in memory of Mr. Murphy to the Wounded Warrior Project--Post office Box 758517--Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
