Evelyn Dudney Godwin

Evelyn Dudney Godwin of Wallace passed from her earthly life on Sunday, December 30, 2018 while at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  Born on June 25, 1929 in Columbus County, NC, she is the daughter of the late Charles Kermit and Lucy Nance Dudney.  She was also predeceased by siblings—Thelma McCaskill and husband Cary, Fulton Dudney and wife Jean, Christine Hatchell and husband Neil, Mildred Blackwell and husband Kurt, Samuel Dudney and wife Jimmi, Lottie Green and husband Mack, Lester Dudney, infant twin brothers Claude and Clayton Dudney; granddaughter—Suzanne McMillan Kornegay; and son-in-law—Jimmy Smith. 

Mrs. Godwin was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.  She was faithful to her church—First Baptist of Wallace.  Many life-long friendships were made while she and her husband operated Godwin IGA in Rose Hill for many years.  While away from work, Mrs. Godwin enjoyed her flower gardening. 

Surviving are her husband of sixty-eight years—David Holmes Godwin; her children—Nancy Godwin Smith of Wallace, Vickie Godwin Baker and husband Tony of Teachey, and Tommy Godwin and wife Audrey of Rose Hill; grandchildren—David McMillan and wife Jenni of Tracy, CA, Eve Baker Jones and husband Chris of Holly Ridge, Anne Godwin Spain and husband Patrick of Pleasant Garden, NC, April Baker Fussell and husband Ryan of Teachey, Adam Baker and wife Rena of Teachey, Eric Godwin and wife Ashley of Raleigh; great grandchildren—Brodie, Journey, Kaylee, Colby, Hailey, Savannah, Leah, Lane, Ellis, and Reed; brother—Tom Dudney and wife Arlene of Fairfax, VA.  She was blessed to have two very special sisters-in-law—Faye Dudney of Burlington and Arlene Dudney of Fairfax, VA.

A service to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace with a visitation to follow the service.  Private interment will be on Thursday.
