Joseph Andrew Houston, Sr of Teachey, NC left his earthly home on Thursday, July 4, 2019 while at Vidant Hospital of Greenville, NC. Born July 28, 1946, he is the son of the late Harvey Andrew and Martha Mae Brock Houston. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son--Joseph Houston, Jr ; granddaughter--Lexie Sage Houston ; and grandson--Michael Brandon Houston.
Left to cherish his memory are sons--Michael Houston and wife Denise of Lupton, MI and Melvin Houston of Lupton, MI ; brother--Donald Houston of Teachey ; special niece--Judy Norris and husband Terry of Beulaville ; and special nephew--Jeffrey Houston of Willard.
Mr. Houston chose to lead a very simple life and cared nothing for the extravagance that many people seem to enjoy. He made a commitment to the United States Army in early 1968 and spent the next two years in the service of his much loved country--most of it in Germany as a tank operator. After service he became a house painter and gave the next fifty hears to this profession. He tremendously enjoyed fishing and also was proficient at bird hunting. While at home he enjoyed his "westerns" on TV which occupied much of his down time. He had a big heart for animals especially cats and dogs and truly loved his Motlab "Precious". He loved his family more than anything else on earth.
A service to celebrate Mr. Houston's life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services in Wallace, NC with visitation in the chapel at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, NC after the service.
