Leslie Henry Knowles

Leslie Henry Knowles of Teachey, NC left his earthly home on Sunday, June 23, 2019 while at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Born December 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Willie Henry and Mary Arlene Robinson Knowles of Rose Hill. Also preceding him in death are his son—Leslie "Sam" Henry Knowles, II; brother—Robert “Bobby” Knowles; sisters—Nellie K. Bateman and Betty Arlene Knowles. Left to cherish his memory are a son—Christopher Robert Knowles and wife Molly of New Bern; mother of his children—Rita Lutz Knowles of New Bern; sister—Mary Roberts of Wilmington; brother—William “Billy” Knowles and wife Hazel of Texas; grandchildren—Charles Leslie Knowles and Ava Elaine Knowles; two nieces and three nephews; and special canine companion “Trixie”. Mr. Knowles fulfilled a commitment of three and a half years to the United States Air Force during the late sixties.  After discharge he worked various jobs until, in 1987, he ended up at Smith Brother Gas Company where he worked as a service technician in the LP gas industry until January 2019 when his health would not allow him to work any more.  Also, after discharge, he spent many years farming on the family land.   As is true of many men, he loved riding his tractor, where he spent many happy hours. He enjoyed hunting—especially for squirrels and birds—and also liked to fish. Gardening was on the top of his list of favorite things to do. Above all other earthly things though, he loved his family most. A service to commemorate Mr. Knowles’ life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace. Interment will be in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC.
