William Earl "Red" Sanderson of Chinquapin, NC departed his earthly life on Monday, December 30, 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Born on June 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Delbert and Virginia King Sanderson. He was also preceded in death by his wife--Pricilla Louise Hall Sanderson; sister--Helen Sanderson; and brothers--Jarvis and Jessie Sanderson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children--Connie Sholar and husband Tim of Wallace, Virginia Kay Sturgill and husband David of Leland, Danny Sanderson and wife Kathy of Teachey, Tina Benton and husband William of Rocky Point, and Ronnie Sanderson and wife Beth of Chinquapin; grandchildren--Chrissy Kornegay, Anthony Williams, Nicholas Williams, Shane Sanderson, Blake Sanderson, Kristie Blake, David Sturgill, and Dustan Morgan; great grandchildren--Kobe Vann, Jackson Vann, Hailey Blake, Marybeck Sanderson, Mason Sanderson, and Justin Morgan; sister-in-law--Jeronia Watkins.
As a high school student, "Red" excelled in baseball and basketball and was an excellent swimmer and water skier. After high school, several years were spent in the service of his country in the North Carolina National Guard. Every year he carried his family to the mountains and to the beach for vacations. White Lake was also a favorite recreation spot for the family. In later years, favorite pastimes were watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Walker Texas Ranger. His love of family was paramount in his life.
Family will greet friends at a visitation at 11:00 am on Friday, January 3, 2020 in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services in Wallace. A service celebrating his life will follow at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in the Daniel Hall Cemetery in Autryville at 3:00 pm. Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the Sanderson family.
