Annie Jean Dail Fussell of Rose Hill (NC) departed her earthly life at midday on Saturday, April 25, 2026 while at ECU Health Duplin Hospital in Kenansville. Born on August 9, 1937, she is the daughter of the late Lee Hampton and Beatrice Mobley Dail. Also preceding her in death are her husband—Bill Fussell and her brother—Haywood Dail.
Left to cherish her memory are her children—Anita Caryl Merritts and husband Rick of Burgaw, Pam Yvonne Fusssell of Warsaw, William Mark Fussell of Albemarle, Phillip Fussell and wife Becky of Willard, and Frankie Watkins Young and husband Dennis of Southport; and siblings—Brenda Baker of Kenansville and Lee H. Dail and wife Carolyn of Wallace.
Mrs. Fussell was born in Duplin County and spent most of her life there. Her career involved work as a seamstress in local textile mills and was a well-known hairdresser in her neighborhood. A very outspoken person, she was very loved by all. One of her greatest joys in life was entertaining family on every conceivable occasion especially on birthdays where children and grandchildren’s birthdays were always special events. Many of these celebrations were at the “old homeplace” where many memories were made and remembered by family. She always loved playing the piano for anyone to also enjoy. Her friends would always say “she would give her shirt right off her back if she thought someone needed or wanted it”. It should be noted that she cherished everything that anyone ever gave her.
A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in the Fussell Family Cemetery (off Corinth Church Road) in Rose Hill.
