Mr. Bascom "Mack" Bristow, Jr. age 96 of Rose Hill died Tuesday July 31, 2012 at Golden Care in Wallace. He was born in Marlboro County, South Carolina on June 14, 1916, the son of the late Bascom Mack Sr. and Martha Jane McLendon Bristow and was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Rodney, Dewey, Jim and Larry, three sisters, Ally Jane, Eulla and Saddie and a daughter, Naomi Sanderson.
Mack joined the United States Army as an infantryman in May of 1945. Later he was assigned to Company F, 347 Engineer General Service Regiment in Germany. His job was to inspect, maintain and repair gasoline powered military vehicles. He specialized in adjusting and repairing carburetors, generators, ignition systems, brakes, and lights. He was depended on to check the tightness of all body and chassis clamps and bolts on all vehicles. Mr. Bristow Jr., separated from the Army July of 1946 with an Honorable Discharge while earning the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. After Mack's discharge, he went to work on a dairy farm for Mr. Cording, later delivering the milk to the surrounding communities. Mack passion was fishing, working on lawn mowers, and just tinkering with his hands.
Surviving is a daughter, Linda Kee and husband Roy of Harrisburg, NC, six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday August 3, 2012 at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Padgett Funeral Home.
