Mrs. Bertha Ezzell Gavin age 68 of 1153 Brooks Quinn Road Rose Hill died Monday Aug. 10, 2009 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh. The funeral service will be held Friday Aug. 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Padgett Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Bruce Herrmann. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens. Born in Sampson County Mrs. Gavin is the daughter of the late William and Jessie Thompson Ezzell. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers, Pearl Porter, Ruth Matthews, Lillie Long and Mary Kate Ezzell, William Ezzell, Charles Ezzell and Clarence Ezzell. She was a retired nurse and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Edward W. Gavin of the home, one sister, Joyce Mason of Poquoson, VA, three brothers, Obbie P. Ezzell of Aurora, IN, Ed Ezzell of Colorado, Springs, CO and James Ezzell of Spokane, WA, one granddaughter, Kelly Turner of Faison. The family will receive at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday and at their residence 1153 Brook Quinn Road, Rose Hill other times.
