Retired, MSGT Carroll Wesley DeVane, age 73 died peacefully on Monday, June 28 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 6, 1936 to Thomas Jonathan DeVane and Estelle Brown DeVane. Wesley grew up in Ivanhoe and joined the US Air Force at a young age and met his wife, Kathleen Merridew in Buckinghamshire, England. They were married on January 25, 1964 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church in Kelly. During his service in the military, they were stationed at several bases in the US. After 25 years, he retired to Wallace with his wife and children. Survivors include wife, Kathleen; son, Gary and wife Rhonda; daughter, Michelle and fiance' Howard Thornton; grandchildren, Wesley Montana DeVane, Lauren Mackenzie DeVane, and Ellen Devane Casteen all of Wallace; sisters, Vera Smith and husband Erwin of Wilmington, Carolyn Hardy of Wilmington, Josephine Kelly and husband John of Wilmington; brothers, Tommy and wife Alice Mae of Turkey, Douglas DeVane and wife Doris of Castle Hayne; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an older brother, Durwood DeVane and his late wife Rita.
