Mrs. Catherine Ann Newkirk Hanks age 85 of 703 East Center Street, Rose Hill died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Padgett Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Maynard Quinn and Rev. Patsy Quinn. Burial will follow in Oak Plain Cemetery, Magnolia, NC. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Hanks Fox of Yorktown, Virginia; two sisters, Amelia Newkirk Zurl of Goldsboro, Willie \"Teeny\" Newkirk Norfleet and husband Ben of Newport News, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Susan Hanks of Rose Hill; sister-in-law, Betty Newkirk of Rose Hill; grandchildren, Stephanie Hanks of Raleigh, David Hanks and wife Trina of Huntsville, Alabama, Christine Fox Kabachinski and husband Christopher of Charlotte, Jennifer Fox of Yorktown, Virginia; and one great-grandchild, Jeremy Craig Hanks of Huntsville, Alabama. A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Hanks was a member of Word of Faith Church, Kenansville, and the daughter of the late Lucian Whitfield Newkirk and Jessie Winstead Newkirk. She is predeceased by one son, George K Hanks, III; one brother, Joseph Whitefield Newkirk; one brother-in-law, Albert Zurl, and her husband George Hanks, Jr. The family will receive friends at Padgett Funeral Home from 12:00 - 1:00 pm Wednesday, and at 703 East Center Street, Rose Hill other times.
