Obituary

Dallas Ray Fountain of Willard, NC, departed his earthly life on the morning of July 7, 2025 while at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC.  Born on November 17, 1937, he is the son of the late Paul James and Sylvia Caroline Baysden Fountain.  Also preceding him in death are his wife—Annette E. Fountain; siblings—William Bruce Fountain, Delores Carol Fountain Thomas, and James Haywood Fountain; and daughter-in-law, Jill Greene Fountain.

Left to cherish his memory are his children—Teresa Fountain of Wilmington and Kenneth Fountain of Watha; grandchildren—Caroline F. Moore and husband Jackson of Surf City and Jameson Fountain of Watha; sister—Loraine Fountain Stroud of Richlands; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dallas was born and raised at Fountaintown in Duplin County and served his country for three years in the United States Army.  He was a highly skilled driver and especially enjoyed driving jeeps on snow and ice while stationed in Alaska.  After serving his country, he worked at J.P. Stevens (later Stevco Knit) for about forty years and was one of the last remaining employees when the factory closed.  Dallas loved his family more than anything else on earth and helping raise and spending time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys.

Dallas and Anette were married for 65½ years, when she died on January 2, 2025.  They had countless good times—fishing, traveling, cooking together, and spending time with family and friends.  Dallas knew, when they traveled with their children, and later grandchildren, they would need a pool for him and them to play in.  Dallas rode every rollercoaster they could find until a few years ago and he usually cooked breakfast before they started their day. He treasured their many family vacations and their time spent at Blackbeard's in Surf City.

A service to celebrate his life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the Willard Baptist Church in Willard, NC, with visitation one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.  Family requests that rather than flowers please consider a contribution in his memory to Saving Dogs 4 Betty's Sake, c/o Sandra Kenan, 555 Willard Road, Willard, NC 28478 or the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington https://lifecare.org/donate/ .
