Mr. Dewey Franklin Stallings, age 81 of Wallace, NC, left this earthly life for his eternal life on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Carolina East Hospice Center. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Wallace conducted by Dr. Alan Thompson. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday, April 11, 2014 at Padgett Funeral Home, Chapel. Dewey is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Margaret (Peggy) Hall Stallings, his loving children, Franklin Darwin Stallings (Bethany) of Waxhaw, NC, and Beth Stallings Moore (Greg) of Teachey, NC, four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Moore (John Barry Hutchens), Matthew Phillip Moore, Austin Franklin Stallings, and Ivey Elizabeth Stallings, a sister, Lois Judge, a brother, John Stallings Jr. (Robbie), a sister-in-law, Margaret Stallings and several nieces and nephews. Born on October 11, 1932 in Duplin County, Dewey was the son of the late John Alfred Stallings, Sr. and Lillie Belle Blanton and was preceded in death by a brother, William (Billy) Allen Stallings. Mr. Stallings was a 1952 graduate from Wallace High School. He was co-captain for Coach Thell Overman's Bulldogs and was affectionately known as \"Tank\". Dewey went on to play football at NC State in 1952. Dewey was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. He served from March 23, 1955 to March 23, 1957. He was a military Police at the Killeen Base in Killeen, TX. Returning home to Wallace, Dewey began working at J.P. Stevens for several years. He also delivered the News and Observer. In 1962, Dewey began a career with Pepsi Cola Bottling Company as a plant supervisor in Wallace. He retired after 30 years of service. Dewey was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. Besides being a life member of the First Baptist Church, he was a member of Bear Garden Hunting Club and the Harrells Hunting Club. He loved running his beagles on his own farm. He was also a big Friday Night Bulldog Football fan. He was a big family man and worked vacations around them. Pallbearers are Tommy Stallings, John Stallings, III, Jimmy Stallings, Terry Tew, Michael Judge, and Warren Singletary. The family would like to pass on a sincere thank you for the care given at the Carolina East Hospice and Home Care and to the five ladies that gave Dewey the special care that he needed at his home.
