Obituary

Diane Usher Spivey, 75, of Burgaw, NC, passed away May 8, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, NC. Mrs. Spivey was born September 11, 1949, in Rose Hill, NC, the daughter of the late Francis Patrick Usher and Mary Lee Morgan Usher. She was preceded in death by her brother Lyman Patrick Usher.

Diane attended James Kenan High School in Warsaw, NC, graduating class of 1968. She continued her education at Miller Motte College in Wilmington, NC, earning her degree in accounting. She started her 39-year career in 1967, when she was 18 years old, as the bookkeeper for Toms Drug Co., downtown Wilmington.

Diane was a lifetime member of Concord Baptist Church, in Rose Hill, NC. She seldom missed a service, only in recent years due to declining health. She would always refer to the church and its members as Home. She was always involved in the activities with the youth, including VBS, skating parties, and chaperoning church lock-ins. She was a Sunday School teacher for the upper youth for many years. It was at Concord Baptist Church she found her faith in the Lord, and held on the that faith, living every day of the last 75 years for her Lord and Savior. Diane married her husband of 46 years, Jerry Carvin Spivey, on October 20, 1979, in Concord Baptist. Even through many battles with declining health over the last several years, she remained devoted and held unwavering belief in her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Diane was exceptionally proud of her one and only child Robbie G. Holly, never missing an opportunity to brag on her and tell everyone all the things she's accomplished and all the many things she was involved in. She was a loving and supportive Mom who always showed up and gave her support, wisdom and love in abundance. She is survived by her spouse, Jerry Spivey, of their home; one daughter Robbie G. Holly and husband Charles Holly "Buddy"; one grandson, Namon Holly, who was the apple of her eye; her brother, Jerry Marshall Usher Sr.; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held Monday May 12, 2025, at Concord Baptist Church at 3:00, with visitation one hour before service. Burial to follow at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pall bearers are Randy Usher, Justin Usher, Jerry Usher Jr., John Tucker, Tony Blanchard, and Chris Boone.  Honorary pall bearers are Steve Boone, Marvin Morgan, Murchinson Usher, Hallie Usher, and Chris Drew. Please consider a contribution to her church rather than flowers. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful nurses, aides and staff from Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the many others for your help and wonderful support over the last few months.
