Mrs. Dorothy Piner Strickland age 82 of 7865 NC Hwy. 11 Willard, died Friday August 7, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center in Wilmington. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 10, 2009 at Padgett Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Parthena Skipper. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. She is survived one daughter, Debbie Ridgeway & husband Scott of Charleston, SC; one son, Gene Strickland & wife Aneta of Willard; four brothers, Herman Piner & wife Delphine of Wallace, Raymond Piner & wife Rochelle and Alfred Piner & wife Elaine both of Willard, Paul Piner & wife Shirley of Wilmington; one granddaughter, Amber Whaley & husband Greg of Wallace; two special friends, Teena Rich of Willard and Tonia Jones of Goldsboro that were very close to her heart. A native of Pender County, Mrs. Strickland is the daughter of the late Carl and Etta Piner. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Strickland. Casketbearers will be Ken Johnson, Wayne Crews, Steve Crews, Glenn Crews, Howard Piner and Ricky Piner. The family will receive at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and at her residence other times. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Lower Cape Hospice & Lifecare Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
