Mr. Edward W. Kornegay, age 70 of Rose Hill, NC, left this earthly life for his eternal life on Thursday, November 13, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Rose Hill Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Bruce Herrmann. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, NC. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Padgett Funeral Home Chapel in Wallace, NC.
Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Sara K. Kornegay, his loving daughter, Lisa Kornegay Smith and husband Chris of Rose Hill, NC, two grandsons, CJ Smith and Michael Smith of Rose Hill, NC, three brothers, Wilbert (Nettie) Kornegay of Magnolia, NC, Hubert Kornegay of Cary, NC and Morris (Yvonne) Kornegay of Washington State, and two sisters, Ann Williams of Kinston, NC and Shirley Kornegay of Kinston, NC and many faithful and dear friends.
Born on May 17, 1944 in Duplin County, Edward was the son of the late Leslie Wooten and Alda Nicholson Kornegay and was preceded in death by three brothers, Everette Kornegay, Ray Kornegay and Larry Kornegay and three sisters, Pearl McConnell, Betty Core and Faye Barnette.
His hobbies included gardening, mowing yards, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Edward was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Pallbearers are Jamie Kornegay, Larry Kornegay, David Barnette, Jimmy Barnette, Jr., Steve Herring and Horace \"Nubby\" Byrd. Honorary Bearers are Murphy Batchelor, Julian Tucker, J. T. Kelly, Billy Floyd, Eugene \"Punk\" Fussell and Arnold Norris.
