Mrs. Ella Whaley Lanier age 91 of 4609 Ashmont Court, Raleigh (formally of Chinquapin) died Wednesday, September 2. 2009 at her residence. A Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Padgett Funeral Chapel in Wallace conducted by Rev. Samuel Swinson and Rev. James Herring. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery at Warsaw. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Gupton and ex-husband Donald of Raleigh, Catherine Stinson and husband Rudy of Raleigh; one step-daughter, Auline Smith of Chinquapin; two grandsons, Craig Zeigler and wife Julia of Youngsville, NC, Doug Whaley of Raleigh; two step granddaughters, Cande Kirk and husband Dan and Cindi Stinson both of Charlotte; two great grandchildren, Jessica Zeigler and Jarrett Zeigler. Mrs. Lanier is a native of Duplin County and is the daughter of the late Chancey and Mary Susan Teachey Nethercutt. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Whaley and M. L. Lanier; one sister, Alice Butts; three brothers, Clarence Nethercutt, Ressie Nethercutt and Audrey Nethercutt. The family will receive at Padgett Funeral Home from l:00 until 2:00 pm Saturday.
