Emma Jean Greene Hanchey of Ocean Isle Beach, and formerly of Wallace, NC, departed her earthly life for her heavenly home on the early morning of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, while at McLeod Health Seacoast Hospital in Little River, SC.  Born on July 10, 1934, she is the daughter of the late Robert Edwin and Inez Yarbough Greene.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Jay Twilly Hanchey.

Left to cherish her memory are her children—Robert Carlos "Bobby" Hanchey and wife Ann of Swansboro, Deborah Jean Hanchey Dickson and husband Raymon of Ocean Isle Beach, and Don Hanchey and wife Toni of Fort Myers (FL); siblings—Robert Hatch Greene and wife Kaye of Cedar Point, Margaret Karen Smith of Emerald Isle, and Judy Tingley and husband Kitt of New Port, NC and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma was born in Nash County in North Carolina.  She then married Jay Twilly Hanchey and moved to Duplin County where they raised their children.

A service to celebrate her life is set for 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2023, in the Island Creek Baptist Church.  Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Little Creek Cemetery in Wallace.
