Mr. Emory Holmes English, age 81 of Wallace, NC, died on June 9, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC surrounded by his children. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace, NC. The service will be led by Sherry Coombs. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 12 noon.

Emory is survived by his daughter, Kim Patram and husband Dennis of Surf City, sons, Steve English and wife Gayle of Surf City and Terry English and wife Rita of Wilmington, six grandchildren, Michael Patram and wife Tonya of Wallace, Dr. Brooke Houston and husband Matthew of Raleigh, Matthew English and wife Amanda of Teachey, Lindsey English and Pall Helgason of Debrecen, Hungary, Kayla English of Arlington, VA and Eric English of Wilmington, one great granddaughter, Emory Landen Patram of Wallace, one surviving brother, Bill English, one sister, Dora Brown Rivenbark, two sisters-in-law, Ann Floyd and Reba English, one step sister, Iris Dean Sholar, several nieces and nephews and special family friends, Bo and Beth Fussell of Surf City.

Emory was born on June 24, 1934 in Duplin County to the late Edgar Stephen and Dora Pauline Brown English. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Peggy Padgett English, four brothers, James Earl English, Franklin English, Harold English and Norwood (Buddy) English and his step mother, Neely English.

He was a member of Poston Baptist Church. He loved God and could often be heard giving his testimony. He was a simple man who loved farming, chickens, working with peanuts and his dog, Milo.

Casket Bearers are Michael Patram, Matthew English, Eric English, Matthew Houston and Bo Fussell. Honorary Bearers are Leon Gurganus, Nelson Gurganus, Scott Brooks, Mike Brill, Joey Smith and Edward Earl Brinson.
