IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emory Turner
Ennis
November 18, 2022 – January 4, 2011
Mrs. Emory Turner \"Miss Emory\" Ennis age 88 of Raleigh, formerly of Wilmington and Chapel Hill died Tuesday January 4, 2011 at Covington Assisted Living in Raleigh. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joanna Turner Ennis Wright of Leland, NC, two sons, John Bernard Ennis of Leland, NC and Ralph Colwell Ennis and wife Jennifer Heer Ennis of Raleigh, NC, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Born November 18, 1922 in Rose Hill, NC, Miss Emory was the daughter of the late Oscar Blount and Garland Fussell Turner. She was educated at Massey's Business College in Richmond, VA and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was employed by Carteret County Schools and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill College of Medicine and retired in 1983 while serving as a research assistant with the Nephrology Department. She was an accomplished pianist, avid reader, bridge player, enjoyed art and art history and was a history and genealogy buff. Miss Emory was a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of several churches in eastern North Carolina including the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, NC where she volunteered as an office assistant. Miss Emory loved her family and was a wonderful mother who would still inspect her 60 year old son for need of a haircut and would tell him about it. Through maternal instinct and precise inquisition, Miss Emory could extract personal information from her children, information they might want to keep private with the skill of a surgeon. Her family will miss her very much. She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Elmore Bernard Ennis, a sister, Olivia Turner Davis, two brothers, Oscar Blount Turner, II and Kenneth Ward Turner. Casketbearers will be Donald Kean, Chris Spivey, Michael Foote, David Ennis, Nathan Ennis and John Ennis.
