Evelyn Edwards Smith of Wallace passed her earthly life on February 23, 2023. Born on November 9, 1935, in Rose Hill, N.C., she is the daughter of the late James and Adell Edwards. She is also preceded in death by her husband – Reuben Smith; siblings – Gerald Edwards and Dorothy Shepard "Dot."

Left to cherish her memory are her brother – James Allen Edwards "Jim Allen" and wife Marlene of Lumberton; sons – Chester Smith and wife Wanda of Beulaville; Michael "Mike" Smith and wife Kaye of Pin Hook; multiple Grandchildren, multiple Great Grandchildren and one Great, Great Grandchild.

Mrs. Smith worked at Chinquapin Elementary School Cafeteria for 25 years and would come home after work and then either work on her husband's farm or in their garden. Mrs. Smith enjoyed watching all the children grow up during the 25 years that she helped feed them at school. She also enjoyed seeing many of them later after they were grown. Mrs. Smith retired from the cafeteria after 25 years. She later worked as a cook at Golden Care Rest Home. Mrs. Smith also worked at "The Pink Supper House" on Saturdays for many years while working at the cafeteria and the rest home. Lastly, she worked as a Greeter at the Wallace Wal-Mart for 12 years. Here she was adored by many customers and coworkers. Several coworkers even called her "Ma."
