Dr. Gloria Hortense Blanton age 86 of Raleigh died Friday June 17, 2011 at Sunnybrook Nursing Home in Raleigh. She is survived by one sister, Barbara B. Page of Harrells, NC, two brothers, James P. Blanton and wife Betty of Washington, NC and Elbert R. Blanton and wife Patsy of Raleigh, NC, two nieces, Rita P. English and husband Terry of Scotts Hill, NC and Carlotta Suggs and husband Douglas of Concord, NC, four nephews, Michael Page and wife Beverly of Wallace, NC, James A. Blanton and wife Julie of Charlotte, NC, Bryan Blanton and wife Lisa of Cary, NC and Kevin Blanton and wife Angela of Apex, NC and several grand nieces and nephews. Born September 19, 1924 in Teachey, NC, Dr. Blanton was the daughter of the late Johnnie J. and Fannie W. Blanton and was a member of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. She was a Baptist Student Union Director in Greenville, NC, associate Dean of Students of Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC, associate professor of psychology and assistant to the president of Meredith College and practicing psychologist in Raleigh, NC, distinguished alumni honor at Campbell University and former president of the NC American Association of University Woman. She was preceded in death by one brother, Howard A. Blanton. The family would like to thank Sunnybrook Nursing Home and Hospice of Wake County.
