Henry Scott Kennedy, 84, of Willard, NC passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC. Born in Sampson County, NC on October 30, 1928, he was the youngest son of the late Ira Franklin Kennedy and Rowena Lewis Kennedy. He was retired from the Raleigh News and Observer. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He was general manager of Leesburg Band for 18 years. He was a member of Willard Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and at the time of his death attended Watha Baptist Church. He loved gardening, fishing and spending time at Sneads Ferry with his wife and many friends. Surviving, is his wife of 61 years, Margaret Rivenbark Kennedy; his sons Henry Scott Kennedy, Jr. (Brenda) of Wilmington, NC and William Franklin Kennedy and friend Tammy of Willard, NC; granddaughters Sherry Ramsey of Wilmington, NC and Windy Faulconer of Winston Salem, NC; his beloved dog \"Maggie\"; sister Elma Kennedy Porter Bowden of Wilmington, NC; In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Barney, Leon, Claude, Charles and Raymond Kennedy. A memorial service will be held at Padgett Funeral Home on Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. The memorial service will be officiated by the Reverend Billy Raynor and the Reverend Macon Wood. Active pallbearers will consist of Wade Blackburn, Dwayne Wallace, Kenneth Lanier, Tommy Wilson, Richard Murray and Colonel Joel Peterson (Ret.). Honorary pallbearers will consist of Kenneth Wells, Paul Radford, Johnny James, Roger Williams, Red Robbins, Gary Boney, Glen Batten, Dale Dixon, Jimmy Peterson, Ernest Sewell, Bob Mollock and Robert (Jr.) Bowen. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend their gratitude NHRMC Surgical Trauma ICU and the staff of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center for the exemplary care and compassion given to Mr. Kennedy in the final stage of his life. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in his name.
