Bo was a member of First Baptist Church of Wallace, NC. After moving to Topsail Beach in 1994, he attended Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel.
In the early sixties, Papa (Bo) turned a school bus into an RV. Everyone should know that he could do anything he decided to. The children loved it and they rode back and forth to Topsail until it wouldn't run any longer. Then Papa and Mema parked the beach RV at Barnacle Bill's Fishing Pier. In 1964, Papa purchased the sound side property at 314 Bridgers Avenue, Topsail Beach. He hired Mr. McCullen to put down the pilings and frame the outside of the house. They would fish when the fish were biting and worked on the house when they weren't. Because there was no first story, everyone used a ladder to access the bedrooms on the second floor.
For the next 30 years, Mema, Papa, and the family would come to Topsail to work, fish, and play. During this time, the beach house was upgraded numerous times until at last it was completed as it stands today. Finally, Mema and Papa decided to move to Topsail Island permanently in the early nineties.
Through the years there have been countless family celebrations, birthday parties, cookouts (always with Papa's famous grilled chicken), oyster roasts, fish frys', as well as several weddings – Mike and Lisa's for one. Thousands of guests have come to the Fussell Family Beach House, and have been welcomed with love, great food, and fellowship.
