Mr. Hubert Thomas Knowles, age 93 of Rose Hill, NC, died on December 30, 2016 at Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Rose Hill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dean Beck. Burial will follow at Knowles Cemetery in Rose Hill, NC. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service.

Hubert is survived by his son, Dennis Knowles and wife Gail of Rose Hill, NC, his daughter, Jane Ritterbusch and husband Johnny of Simpsonville, SC, his grandchildren, Samantha Kennedy and husband Bradley of Chinquapin, NC, Sarah Buitrago and husband Erik of Simpsonville, SC and Natalie Ritterbusch of Simpsonville, SC and great grandchildren , Sophia Kennedy of Chinquapin, NC and Gabriella Buitrago of Simpsonville, SC.

Hubert was born on May 4, 1923 in Duplin County to the late Franklin and Mattie Register Knowles. He is also predeceased by his wife, Martha M. Knowles, a baby girl, his brothers, Avnor Knowles, Johnny Knowles, Milton Ray Knowles, Aaron C. Knowles and Earl Knowles and his sisters, Annie Mae Wells, Gertrude Sheffield, Leanna Sheffield, Effie Stanley and Bessie Brooks.

He loved to be outside working in his garden. He also loved deer hunting. He served his Country honorably in the US Navy for 4 years.

Casket Bearers will be David Knowles, Grey Sheffield, Wayne Brooks, David Johnson, Tony Martin and Roger Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rose Hill Baptist Church General Fund, 401 East Main Street Rose Hill, NC 28458.
