Obituary

Hugh Lassister Beaman, Jr., 67, of Wilson passed away after a period of declining health on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC. Mr. Beaman was born in Pitt County on June 18, 1947 to Hugh Lassiter and Lucille Stocks Beaman, both of whom preceded him in death. Upon graduation from Ralph L. Fike High School, he entered the US Air Force serving his country for four years. After his time in the service, he worked at Firestone, retiring in 1991. Also, he and his father owned and operated Gulf and Exxon stations in the Wilson area. Among his hobbies were watching NASCAR, experimenting with photography and collecting model trains. He also enjoyed traveling to classic antique car shows. Hugh attended First Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Emily Scott Oswald Beaman of the home; aunts Myrtle S. Owens of Suffolk, Virginia and Ruth V. Stocks of New Bern, NC; mother-in-law Anntilla S. Oswald of Wallace, NC and sisters-in-law Ann Davis (Gary) Weaver and Mary Hart (Michael) Blackburn and nieces Mary Lila and Lizzie-O Blackburn, all of Wallace, NC. Among his many cousins in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, he is also survived by Linda S. Mayo of Farmville, NC, Tommy (Donna) Mayo and Jimmy (Janice) Holloman, all of Walstonburg, Ann J. Adcock formerly of Walstonburg and Ann Ham Vick of Winterville, NC. Graveside service will be held at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 10:30 am with Dr. Al Thompson officiating. A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Doug Radford and Rev. Billy Toler will be held at First Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Hugh's memory be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 4865 Nash St. NW, Wilson, NC 27893, or to the charity of one's choice.
