Obituary

I. J. Quinn, Sr., age 77 of River Landing Community died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. He was a long time resident of Warsaw. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday July 18, 2009 at Warsaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Herring and Dr. Del E. Parkerson officiating. Entombment will take place in the mausoleum at Devotional Gardens. He graduated from Beulaville High School and then served in the United States Air Force. After leaving the military he joined his brothers at Quinn Wholesale Company, a family-owned business, in 1952 and was the Vice President in Charge of Buying and Merchandising, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Home Federal Savings and Loan Board, the Warsaw Masonic Lodge, and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as a member of the Men's Choir. He contributed to numerous charities, some of which included Warsaw Baptist Church, Carolina East Home Care & Hospice Foundation, The Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Center, Harrells Christian Academy, NC State University and Duke University. Survivors include son, I. J. Quinn, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Warsaw; special son, Rondell Branch of Kenansville; grandchildren, Josh, Staci, Jack and Anna Carson; brothers, Milford Quinn and Gerald Quinn of Warsaw; and sisters, Grace Carlton of Warsaw and Faye Williams of Beulaville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances A. Quinn, sister, Zona Q. Jenkins, and parents Tharon and Isla Quinn. Casket Bearers will be Steve Sprouse, Larry George, Bob Hickey, C. J. Caproni, Ronnie Batts, Bobby Batts, Jack Hill and Eddie Cavenaugh. Honorary Bearers will be Terry Quinn, Craig Quinn, Robin Quinn, Kim Quinn, Haywood Quinn, Dr. Fredrick Williams, Nelson Carlton, Jr. and J. T. Jenkins. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Friday, July 17, 2009 at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace, NC. Memorial donations may be made to Warsaw Baptist Church, 209 East College Street, Warsaw, N.C. or The Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Center, P. O. Box 887, Kenansville. N. C.
