James Luther “Jimmy” Brinkley of Teachey departed his earthly life in the early evening of Monday, October 19, 2026 while at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington. Born on July 6, 1947, he is the son of the late Luther Carr and Catherine Allen Smith Brinkley. He is also preceded in death by his second wife—Kay Powell Brinkley.
Left to cherish his memory are his son—Jason Brinkley and fiancé Jessica Broadhurst; stepson—Adam Hunt of Wallace; siblings—Donald Edward Brinkley of Teachey and Faye Nielson of Irving (TX); his first wife—Barbara Bass Brinkley of Burgaw; and special friend—Bob Parker of Wallace.
Mr. Brinkley worked his garden tediously and took pride in sharing the “produce” of his labors with people he encountered in many different places such as the physician office when going in for appointments. He enjoyed fishing and shooting guns with his son Jason and especially liked attending car shows together, with the Ford brand as a personal favorite. “Window shopping” at the Ford dealership on weekends was a favorite item on his “to do list”. He did not live in extravagance unless it involved his family who he loved dearly.
A celebration of his life is set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2026, in Mr. Brinkley’s residence at 1130 Wellstown Road, Teachey, NC.
