James Edward Cottle of Castle Hayne, NC, departed his earthly life on the afternoon of Saturday, September 30, 2023, while at home. Born on August 19, 1959, he is the son of the late William Earl and Meta Marie Hunter Cottle. He was also preceded in death by a son -- Bret Michael Gable; wife -- Penny Sue Gable; and siblings -- Evelyn Pace and Jeffrey Lynn Cottle.

Left to cherish his memory are sons -- Casey James Cottle of Cary and Earl Pierce Cottle of Willard; brothers -- William Earl Cottle (Carolyn) of Calypso, Johnnie Dale Pope (Dana) of Rigelwood, and Jessie Thomas Pope (Belinda) of Magnolia; good friend -- "Pete"; and canine companion -- Dixie.

Born in Duplin County, he spent a great deal of his life in the area working in construction. HIs family was dear to him and a very important part of his life.
