Mr. James Douglas Savage Sr. age 64 of Teachey died Sunday May 27, 2012 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deborah Lanier Savage, of the home, one son, James Douglas Savage, Jr. and wife Susan of Wallace, NC, two daughters, Angela Savage Smith and husband Wayne of Magnolia, NC, and Jennifer Savage Bradshaw and husband William of Magnolia, NC , four sisters, Vera Savage Clark and husband Tommy of Teachey, NC, Helen Brown of Teachey, NC, Dorothy Hardison of Wallace, NC, Mildred \"Peanut\" Skidmore and husband Stan of Teachey, seven grandchildren, James Daniel Stewart, III, Kayla Elaine Hines, Melissa Danielle Cox, Lauren Noel Smith, Allison Ann Smith, Erin Hope Savage and Jayme Lee Savage. Born March 27, 1948 in Pender County, Mr. Savage was the son of the late Clifton and Mildred Stroud Savage and was a member of the Hatcher's Chapel in Chinquapin. A veteran of the Vietnam War, James served in the United States Army Infantry earning the rank of Private First Class. Mr. Savage was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Drivers Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Marksman Medal for Machine Gun and Rifle. Upon an Honorable discharge of the military, he was self employed as a carpenter for 40 years. Mr. Savage enjoyed working on his 57 Chevy and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Savage, George Savage, David Savage, William Savage and one granddaughter, Krista Ellen Smith. Casket bearers will be Oliver Smith, Kenneth Murphy, Garland Hines, Jr., Johnny Savage, William Brandon and Gary Hall.
