Mr. John Michael Levings, age 58 of Wallace, NC, passed away unexpectedly on February 07, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Karen; his two daughters, Lauren and Cory; his parents, Dr. Charles Sandford Levings III and Mary Catherine Carroll Levings of Raleigh, NC; his sisters, Carol Strickland of Fuquay Varina, NC, Karin Levings of Raleigh, NC, and Lisa Gaylord and husband Rick of Matthews, NC; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Robinson and husband Steve of Wallace, NC; and Gayle Atkinson and husband Willie of Currie, NC; and nine nieces and nephews.

John was born June 20, 1957 in Paris, Illinois and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. John and Karen moved to Wallace in 1997 where he became Owner/Operator of the Sears Authorized Retail Dealer Store. John was an active member in his community, having served as President of the Wallace Chamber of Commerce and as a Board Member on the Wallace Parks and Recreation Board. He was a member of the Wallace Rotary Club. He has also served as the Grand Marshall of the Wallace Christmas Parade. John was an active member of the Wallace United Methodist Church where he served his church in numerous roles including serving as Chairman of the Administrative Council, serving on the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee; and serving as a Trustee. He was also very active in the Methodist Men, having served as President, and helping with numerous fundraisers benefiting children in the community.

John was a man who truly valued hard work and service to others. He was compassionate, generous with his time, and dedicated to his family, church and his community. Some of his other hobbies and interests were hunting, golfing, boating, coaching and taking care of others.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Wallace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 6:30-7:30 at Wallace United Methodist Church.
