Mr. John Walter Venters, Sr., age 89 of Wallace, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Golden Care Rest Home in Wallace, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 5 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1401 South College Road, Wilmington, NC by Pastor Beth Hood. He is survived by three children, John W. Venters, Jr. and wife Susan Venters of Wilmington, NC, Ronald Venters and wife Eve Black Venters of Wallace, NC, Kim Marie Venters of Southport, NC, eight grandchildren, Caitlin Venters of New York, Colleen Venters of Wilmington, NC, Phillip Sharky of Southport, NC, Patrick Sharky of Southport, NC, Lauren Weaver and husband Andrew of Charleston, SC, Joshua Venters and wife Alexandriana Parks of Phoenix, AZ, Chandler Barnes Venters of Wallace, NC and Nathan G. Kirby and wife Kristy of Gastonia, NC, five great grandchildren, a brother, William Venters of New Bern, NC, two sisters, Virginia Lundquist of Leland, NC and Sarah Schoonmaker of Raleigh, NC and several special nephews and nieces. Born April 23, 1925 in New Hanover County, Mr. Venters was the son of the late Mark Delmar and Marybelle Brinkley Venters and was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Constance \"Connie\" Tunnessen Venters. Mr. Venters was affectionately known as \"Pop-Pop\" to his family. He enjoyed being outdoors playing golf, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling. He worked with Ping Golf for 34 years. He was a Naval Medic in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Mr. Venters was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and four siblings, Lewis Venters, Sr., Mark Delmar Venters, Jr., Robert Venters, Sr., and Betty V. Davis.
