Mr. Joseph \"Slab\" Leonard Lane, age 83, of Wallace, NC, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Carolina East Hospice Care Center. He was born in Johnston County, NC, on November 30, 1928, the son of the late Joseph Edgar and Ida (Millard) Lane and was preceded in death by two brothers. Serving in the Army, Joseph fought in the Korean War. After the military, he worked for Potter Oil Company of Wallace for 45 years. Joseph loved working with wood, fishing and pushing his grandchildren around in his wheel barrow. He put his faith in God and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallace. Surviving beside his wife of 55 years, Elsie (Rivenbark) Lane are: a son, Tony Lane and wife MaryAnne of Chinquapin, NC, a daughter, Ronda L. Rivenbark and husband Gerald of Rose Hill, NC, three granddaughters, Melissa Weston and husband Craig of Chinquapin, NC, Anna Rivenbark of Rose Hill, NC and Gerron Rivenbark of Rose Hill, a grandson, Matthew Lane and wife Kelly of Chinquapin, NC, two great grandchildren, Crissa Weston and Ayden Lane, four sisters and a host of nieces and nephews. Casket Bearers are his nephew's: Boyce Whaley, Gregory Whaley, David Whaley, Douglas Lane, Gregory Lane and Elias Pigford.
