Obituary

Mr. J.R. Cavenaugh, age 90 of Magnolia, NC, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, Wallace, NC. Services will be conducted by Rev. Buddy Mitchell and Rev. Ronnie Ezzell. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, NC. Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday, September 30, 2013 at Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gracie Hall Cavenaugh of the home, a son, Larry Cavenaugh and wife Pearl of Magnolia, NC and a daughter, Annette Herndon and husband Charles of Apex, NC, four grandchildren, Brian Herndon and wife Andolyn of Myrtle Beach, SC, Cynthia Smith and husband Joe of Mt. Olive, NC, Matthew Cavenaugh of Magnolia, NC and Regina Pierce of Magnolia, NC, four great grandchildren, three sisters, Melrose Rediker and husband Ted of Pinebrook, NJ, Cheryl Jean Murdock and husband Ed of Morehead City, NC, and Mary Brown and husband Marshall of Knightdale, NC. He also had many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Cavenaugh was born December 9, 1922 in the Pinhook Community of Duplin County. J.R. loved his church. He was a longtime member of the Carroll Street PFWB Church in Magnolia where he held the position of Deacon. He also was a Sunday school teacher as well as member of the church choir. J.R. had retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after working 41 years as an equipment operator. Mr. Cavenaugh also enjoyed attending to his flowers and gardening, building things out of wood, being outdoors and especially loved spending time with his family. Pallbearers will be Billy Hall, Arnold Kelly, Dennis Chambers, Brian Herndon, Matthew Cavenaugh, Joe Smith, Ryan Smith, and Bryce Smith.
