Mrs. Julia Holmes Matthews age 87 of Wilmington, formerly of Wallace died Thursday January 6, 2011 at Autumn Care in Wilmington. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Wells and husband David of Wilmington, two sons, James Preston and wife Dot of Warsaw and Douglas Matthews of Burgaw, one step-son, William C. Matthews and wife Patricia of Delaware, ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Born in Lenoir County, Mrs. Matthews was the daughter of the late Marshall Holden and Geta Belle Massey Holmes. She loved her children and loved to go shopping. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Henry Matthews.
