Kathryn \" Kay\" Louise Britten Wait, age 94 ,of Wallace, passed away peacefully on March 21,2014 at Rosemary Rest Home in Rose Hill, NC. Kay was born in Kingston, NY to Neil and Rosabel Britten. She grew up in Kinston, NC. Kay graduated from Greensboro Women's College (now UNC-G) as a Phi Beta Kappa scholar. She earned her Master's Degree in Medical Technology from Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. She met and married Haward \" Doc\" Wait in 1943 and they moved to Wallace in 1948. Kay and Doc enjoyed a long and loving marriage of 65 years. Kay and her husband were very active members in the Wallace United Methodist Church and in other community organizations, including Meals on Wheels. Kay was also active in the Easter Star for many years. Kay was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was an excellent role model for her family. She always had a smile, wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh. One of her and Doc's favorite activities was holding hands as they took daily walks together. She enjoyed having her family around, and especially appreciated their family vacation time at Topsail beach and walks on the beach. Kay was predeceased by her husband and sister, Mary Britten Cuthrell . Surviving are her three sons and their spouses, Terry ( Beverly ) of Cary, NC, Jim ( Diane) of West Jefferson, NC, Dan (Teresa) of Holly Ridge, NC. Grandchildren include Dr. Scott Wait ( Regina), Brooks Wait (Ceri), Kendric Wait ( Bethani), Courtney Wait, Kathryn Koning ( Sander), Linden Wait and Jenny Wait. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm on Sunday, March 23 at Padgett's Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Park ,Watha, NC at 11:00 am on Monday March 24. 2014.
