Katie Pittman Teachey of Rose Hill, NC departed her earthly life en route to her eternal heavenly home during the early evening of Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, while at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 16th, 1933 in Richlands, NC, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Emma Carter Pittman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Vann Teachey, Sr and her son-in-law Roger Parker.
Left to cherish her memory are her children- Linda T. Cross and husband Mike of Wilmington, Joan T. Parker of Rose Hill, Wendell Teachey, Jr and wife Cindy of Rose Hill, and Neil Teachey and wife Lavonda of Rose Hill; Grandchildren- Brian Cross(Christy), Cameron Getman (Kevin), Jarrod Powell (Julianne), Katie Knowles(Stephen), Cal Parker (Kirstin), Jake Parker (Emma), Brennon Teachey(Mallory), Braxton Teachey(Bethany), and Deagan Sholar (Johnson); Siblings- Bobby Pittman (Donna) and Shelby T. Parr (Chris), both of Jacksonville, NC,
Mrs. Katie had twenty-seven Great Grand Children and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Katie grew up in Onslow County, NC near Richlands, and graduated from Richlands High School where she was the president of the Future Homemakers of America. She married Wendell Teachey in1951. Following his discharge from in the Navy in 1954, they made their home in Duplin County, and continued the family farm. She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife who supported her husband and family in anyway should she could, whether it was working the fields or providing meals. In later years she worked for Murphy Family Farms, Inc. for seventeen and half years, as a Scheduling Coordinator, before retiring in 1997. Mrs. Katie was a faithful member of Island Creek Baptist Church, and was a loyal member of the Silver Threads Sunday School Class. Family was of paramount importance to Mrs. Katie, and she had a special love and personal bond with each of her many family members. Cooking was one of her many joys in life, and a delicious hot meal was always available on a moment’s notice, any time of day or night. She especially loved having her family together for meals, conversation, and laughter, and ensuring each one had eaten plenty. Her prayers before each meal, were always asking the Lord to watch over her family, and that they might have the right relationship with Him.
A Celebration of her life is set for 11:00 am on Monday, January 12th, 2026, with visitation with the family at 10:00 am, at Island Creek Baptist Church, followed by interment at Little Creek Cemetery. Deacons of the church will serve as casket bearers and The Silver Threads Sunday School Class will be her honorary bearers. The family request visitation between the hours of 2-7 pm at Mrs. Katie’s home in Rose Hill. Flowers are appreciated, but please consider a donation to Island Creek Baptist Church in her memory.
