Mr. Larry Matthews, age 59 of Wallace, NC, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in Wallace, NC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Wallace First Assembly of God conducted by Reverend Leo Bracken. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park in Watha, NC. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Larry is survived by two sisters, Teresa Lee of Teachey, NC, Ann Piner and husband Willie Piner, Jr. of Rose Hill, NC, a brother, Jimmy Matthews and wife Judy of Teachey, NC, and five nieces and nephews, Kathy Houston of Teachey, NC, Buddy Jones of Teachey, NC, Michael Piner of Rose Hill, NC, Jimmy Matthews, Jr. of Teachey, NC, and Tammy Smith and husband Stacey of Wallace, NC. Larry was born February 9, 1955 in Clinton, NC, to the late David H. Matthews and Hilda Walker Matthews and was preceded in death by a brother, David C. Matthews, a sister, Frances M. Garriss and two half brothers, Bobby R. Powell and James Powell. Larry was a member of the Wallace First Assembly of God Church. He loved his church and listening to gospel music, especially the Horrell Family. He could be seen riding his bicycle all over Wallace. He will be missed by all those who loved him.
