Mr. Lewis Vance Walker age 80 of Penderlea died Friday March 25, 2011 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia H. Walker, of the home, one daughter, Diane Knowles and husband Robert and granddaughter, HaLee Knowles of Wallace; one brother, Harry Walker and wife Gray of Penderlea, one sister, Elizabeth Jones of Wilmington, a special nephew, Johnny Walker of Penderlea, numerous nieces and nephews and lots of friends. Born in Pender County, Mr. Walker was the son of the late David Wells and Ruth Ellen Johnson Walker and was a member of Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Walker, Stanley Walker, Alton Walker and H. C. Walker. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and was a Purple Heart recipient plus earned several other citations and served in the Korean War. He retired from the NC DOT Burgaw Division and was a retired Penderlea Fireman. Honorary bearers will be the Penderlea Fireman.
