Lila attended East Carolina University and later James Sprunt Community College. After leaving East Carolina, she moved to Washington, DC, and worked in the office of the Postmaster General. Upon leaving Washington, she returned to her home where she was a wife and mother. Later she returned to school to refresh her education and was employed by the Department of Health and Human Resources at Dobbs School in Kinston, NC till her retirement. Here she made many lasting friendships with her co-workers. After her retirement she devoted her life to caring for her mother and enjoying her children and her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Above all, she loved her Lord and Savior and as a true Christian Lady she set high Christian standards for her family to follow. She strived to teach her children and grandchildren the true meaning of being a Christian. She read her Bible daily and lived by its lessons. Her humor and presence will be missed by her family, but we all know that she is now free from all physical earthly restraints and is dancing on streets of gold in her new heavenly home.
