Mr. Linwood James Hanchey, age 88, of Rocky Point, formally of Rose Hill died Sunday January 22, 2012, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Frances Kelly Hanchey of Rocky Point, two daughters, Ann H. Whaley and husband David and Angela Hanchey, all of Wilmington, one daughter, Marian Kelly of Big Island, VA and her children, Peter and Amy, one grandson, Dave Whaley, great grandchildren, Tripp and Kate Whaley, one granddaughter, Julie Whaley Therkelsen and husband Dave and one sister, Pat H. Price and her daughters Joy and Gay. Born April 16, 1923 in Duplin County, Mr. Hanchey was the son of the late James Sprunt and Emma Frances Hanchey and was a lifelong member of Island Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Ethel Brown Hanchey and his beloved son, L. J. Hanchey, Jr. We all share in the loss of a most special husband, daddy, granddaddy, granddaddy pop, brother and friend.
