Mrs. Lucy Katherine Southerland Wells passed away peacefully on Friday June 25, 2010 at Milford and Reba Quinn Hospice Care Center in Kenansville. Her parents, the late Ilet Black Southerland and the late Earlene Johnson Southerland Wells, preceded Lucy in death. As well as, husband, the late Samuel L. Wells , Sr. to whom she was married for over forty years. Lucy Katherine was born August 31, 1922 in Wallace, NC. She is survived by her two sons, Samuel L. Wells, Jr. and wife Margaret of Newport News, Virginia; Bert Wells of Raleigh, North Carolina; one grand daughter, Elizabeth Shumadine and her husband Jim of Norfolk, Virginia; two grandchildren, Sam and Charlotte Shumadine of Norfolk, Virginia; six nieces, Earlene Southerland of Wallace, Margaret Green of Naples, Florida, Sue Jarman of Marietta, GA., Anne Sowers and Frances Boyst, both of Raleigh, NC and Judy Holley of Teachey, NC and two nephews, I. B. Southerland, III and Carl Southerland of Winston-Salem, NC. She was an active member of Rockfish Presbyterian Church for over sixty years.
