Obituary

Mrs. Mabel Jean Wood, age 79 of Wallace, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Poston Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Dustin Gillespie. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha. The family will receive one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria W. Morrison and husband James of Wallace, NC and Wanda W. Buckner and husband Donnie of Surf City, NC, two granddaughters, Kerry Morrison of Wallace, NC, and Allison Buckner of Blowing Rock, NC, three grandsons, Jeff Morrison of Wallace, NC, Adam Buckner and wife Kellie of Greenville, SC, and Matt Buckner and wife Page of Hampstead, NC, ten great grandchildren, Jaylen, Jordan and Jace Wells, Brayden and Landen Morrison, McKay and Rylee Morris, Noah and Abbie Buckner, and Justice Pierce Buckner and a special nephew, Jimmy Godwin and wife June of Wallace, NC. Mrs. Wood also had many special cousins and friends in Dunn and Fayetteville. Born September 14, 1933 in Dunn, NC, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Craven Blackman and Luda Daughtry Johnson and was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph Paul Wood. Mrs. Wood attended Plain View High School. She married young and she and J.P. moved to Wallace in 1955 to work at J.P. Stevens where she had made many lifetime friends. She was a faithful member of Poston Baptist Church and loved her church family very much. She retired from J. P. Stevens after working for over 30 years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After retirement, she looked forward to monthly visits with her cousins as her health allowed. Casket bearers will be Bray Batts, Adam Buckner, Matt Buckner, Jeff Morrison, Dwayne Peterson and Todd Peterson. Flowers are welcome but donations can be made to Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center, P.O. Box 887, Kenansville, NC 28349.
