Marilynn D. Jones, 89, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 in Rose Hill, NC. She was the daughter of the late Cole and Georgia Wade Davis of Fairmont, WV. She received her education at Barnes School, Fairmont Senior High and Fairmont State College. She taught in Monongalia and Marion County, WV schools before going to Baltimore, MD. She attended Johns Hopkins University and received her Master's Degree from West Virginia University. She then taught and supervised English student teachers at Fairmont State College for 15 years. She was a Professor Emeritus of English at Fairmont State College. Marilynn was a member and regent of the Major William Haymond Chapter of the DAR, a member of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a lifetime member of West Virginia Education Association and a member of the Marion County Chapter of Retired Education Employees. She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church and a former Sunday School teacher there. She is survived by her daughter, Susan J. Hanks, of Rose Hill, NC; two grandchildren, Stephanie A. Hanks, of Cary, NC, and David W. Hanks and wife Trina, of Owens Crossroads, AL; and great-grandson, Jeremy Craig Hanks, also of AL. Her husband, Augustus Rex Jones, died October 17, 1992, after 44 years of marriage. Services at Ford Funeral Home in Fairmont, WV will be announced later.
