Mr. Marvin Earl Knowles of Teachey, NC, died Saturday, November 05, 2011, at Pender Memorial Hospital, Burgaw, NC. He was born in Duplin County on June 13, 1926, the son of the late Ivey and Janie (Fussell) Knowles and was preceded in death by a brother, Ivey Roy Knowles Sr. and a sister Nellie Grey Danford. Marvin served in the United States Army at a young age of 19 as an Infantryman during WWII earning the rank of Private First Class and earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He attended church at the Corinth Baptist Church and was a member of the Gideon's International. Some of his hobbies included fishing, riding in his golf cart, tending to his garden and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving besides his wife of 61 years, Allene (Griffin) Knowles are: three sons, Larry Knowles and wife Linda of Rose Hill, NC, Jimmy Knowles and wife Karen of Teachey, NC and Joe Knowles and wife Alexandra of Rose Hill, eight grandchildren, Sean Knowles and wife Tracy, Wendy Malone and husband Chris, Graham Knowles, Rena Baker and husband Adam, Bradly Knowles and wife Brittany, Diana Knowles, Nancey Gordon and Trinity Knowles, six great grandchildren, Mackenzie Gordon, Savanna Knowles, Jeremy Brice, Madelynn Knowles, Carrie Malone and Cole Malone and several nieces and nephews. Casket Bearers are: Bradley Knowles, Graham Knowles, Adam Baker, Ivey Knowles, Gene DeVain and Bo Jones.
